Minister of Neo Political Correctness from West Palm Beach, United States writes Have we EVER treated one of your PM's in such a shabby manor? --------That would require most Americans to have a clue as to what's beyond their borders. It's hard to protest the leader of another country and watch the latest news on Britney and Lindsay at the same time. GWB is standing up to islamofacism (I used that before he did). -----Yes he's fighting it so well by abandoning the prime terror target in Afghanistan and starting a non related, oil war in Iraq. You call it fighting terror. The world calls is taking your eye off the ball. YOU were first in WW1 and 2 yet now we hear the calls "honest broker" which mean the destruction of Israel. ---We weren't first in these wars but we were well ahead of you. Those were just wars because most Canadians came from lands directly involved in the conflict.

S.J. County shares in celebration of the potato

Perhaps you haven't heard, but 2008 is the International Year of the Potato.

No, really. The United Nations formally launched the observance in October in conjunction with World Food Day.

According to the official Web site - www.potato2008.org - "The celebration of the International Year of the Potato (IYP) will raise awareness of the importance of the potato - and of agriculture in general - in addressing issues of global concern, including hunger, poverty and threats to the environment."

Fans make an early exit as new boss takes over

Although there were no rousing renditions of Nigel Pearson's red and white army,' those present did get behind the side for the first 30 minutes.

Some positive play and evidence of a willingness to close the opposition down gave encouragement to the supporters.

Yet the mood markedly changed thanks to a horrific two- minute spell.

When Plymouth's Peter Halmosi slammed in his side's first, after 31 minutes, following Andrew Surman's errant pass, the restlessness that has become all too familiar at St Mary's this season reappeared.

The home support was swiftly taunted with cries of There's only one Paul Sturrock' from the Plymouth faithful.

Just two minutes later, some fans decided they could take no more.

As Jim Paterson curled home past a bemused Kelvin Davis, a cacophony of boos rang around the ground, followed by the incredible sight of a stream of fans heading for the exits.

New Exchange Traded Fund Tracks Domini 400 Social Index

Barclays Global Investors launches the iShares KLD 400 Social Index ETF.

SocialFunds.com -- Last week, Barclays Global Investors (BGI) launched the iShares KLD 400 Social Index Fund (ticker: DSI), the first exchange traded fund (ETF) to track the Domini 400 Social Index. The index has long been considered the premier socially responsible investing (SRI) benchmark. However, for over a decade-and-a-half an exclusive licensing agreement allowed Domini Social Investments to be the only SRI firm to offer mutual funds that tracked the index. The recent vote by Domini Social Equity Fund (ticker: DSEFX) shareowners to shift from passive to active management has opened to door for others to manage funds based on the Domini 400 Social Index.

In related news, Green Century Equity Fund (GCEQX) shareowners voted to keep tracking the Domini 400 Social Index, making it now the only mutual fund to do so.

Journey to the Lands of Cotton: A Brief Manual of Globalisation

Though synthetic fibres dominate the market (60 per cent), cotton is holding its own (40 per cent).

And so cotton clothes the human race.

And it doesn't stop there. It goes into the making of medical compresses, of course, but also specialized papers (including banknotes), photographic film and candlewicks. And, in their constant concern to make themselves useful, its fibres go into the composition of cosmetics (nail varnish, haircare products), toothpastes, ice creams ... And even though the taste of some Bolognese sauces or German sausages might seem strange, how were we to know that they contained cotton?

The seeds are no less generous. Rich in protein, they provide us, without our knowing it, with a large part of our table oil. As the marketing men apparently fear that the 'cotton oil' label will put off the potential buyer, it is dubbed, more vaguely and more generally, 'vegetable oil'.

Aakre: Farm-scale biodiesel plant could be useful someday

CROOKSTON, Minn. (AP) - If oil prices continue to climb or commodity prices adjust down, professor Paul Aakre of the University of Minnesota, Crookston has a pretty good idea how farmers can save money on diesel fuel. He's putting together a farm scale seed-to-fuel biodiesel plant.''What we're trying to show here is the potential of a farm-scale press that you could use to produce your own fuel and your own feed products,'' says the program manager for the school's Agriculture Management Systems department. While farm-sized ethanol mixers have been available on the market for years, there have been few options for farmers to press their own seed for the oils used by the mixer, so there still were some middleman costs in the way of a farmer producing his or her own ethanol. Aakre's system adds value back to the raw seed, producing oil for the fuel as well as valuable meal for use as a livestock protein supplement.

Stocks Hold Gains After Fed Minutes

It's been a topsy-turvy day, with stocks sliding at the open after the CPI report, then rebounding in the afternoon as investors toggled their focus to H-P's better-than-expected results. The telecom sector, however, remained firmly in the red amid concerns about a price war.

"The Dow is going up because people are seeing through the rest of the year," Brett D'arcy, director of investments at CBIZ Financial Solutions, told CNBC. After H-P's encouraging results, investors are realizing things aren't all bad, he said.

But what about that pesky $100 oil?

"Oil in my opinion is a speculative bubble," D'arcy said, adding that there really isn't much relation between oil and the stock market.
