Australian stock market closes down on global credit concerns

DESPITE a strong lead from Wall Street and higher commodity prices, the share market closed in negative territory, reversing earlier intraday gains, on cautiousness about global investments markets.

At the 4.15pm AEDT close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 20 points, or 0.33 per cent, to 5960, and the All Ordinaries had shed 21.1 points, or 0.35 per cent, to 6019.8. On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the March share price index was down 15 points to 5951 on a volume of 27,555 contracts. ABN Amro Morgans Ipswich manager Tony Russell said nervousness ruled the local market today. "The market is very jittery, we've been swinging from positive to negative.'' Mr Russell said Australian investors were cautious about the earnings results coming from the United States. "We'll see some of the major financial institutions reporting in the US tonight, so the market might be waiting to see what happens there.'' Mr Russell said trading conditions were thin, with many investors still on holiday.

Commenting on the approval, Ahmad Bin Sulayem, chairman of DGCX, said, "Not only will this approval create opportunities for market participants based in Singapore, but is a clear demonstration of our commitment to meet customer demand for wider marker access". .

Financed by the Bank of Ma and Pa

It is almost impossible for anyone under 40 today to get get enough money for a down payment on a house unless they make a six-figure salary - and how many do? Remember, these are the people who are going to be looking after baby boomers in their old age. If they can't afford to make a decent living, have a place of their own and manageable debt, they might not support the elderly. Video screen gives Snellville Police faster warrants

The new technology will give Snellville an edge as the county makes advances in its criminal justice computer systems, said Gwinnett County Court's Chief Magistrate George F. Hutchinson III.

"The county is moving in the direction of creating a criminal justice information system," Hutchinson said. "Having Snellville on the cutting edge of that places it in a good position."

Snellville is the first city in Gwinnett to implement the system. The Gwinnett County police department subsequently installed the system, Whitehead said.

The upgrade didn't cost the citizens of Snellville one dime. About $5,500 in confiscated funds from illegal drug sales covered the bill for the new software.

"The good news for the people of Snellville is the drug dealers paid for it," Whitehead said.
